ABU DHABI, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, chaired the first meeting of the Higher Committee for the Year of Zayed 2018 at the Presidential Palace on Sunday.
The meeting reviewed the plan of action and other activities that have taken place since the national initiative was launched in January 2018.
Those at the meeting approved a series of programmes and strategies that underscore the exceptional standing of the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his central role and significant efforts in building the UAE federation and state, as well as his prominent local and international achievements.
Sheikh Mansour stated that the convening of this meeting comes in line with the announcement of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan dedicating 2018 as the Year of Zayed, to be a national occasion to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the founding father, his far-sighted vision and leadership, as well as to highlight his remarkable achievements, rich values and his inspirational character.
Sheikh Mansour said the committee is playing an important role in laying down a solid foundation, through which initiatives will be launched with a stronger momentum throughout the year.
”The committee is very pleased with the enthusiastic and positive response to the Year of Zayed initiative, noting the support shown by both firms and individuals within the UAE and abroad for its objectives, which seek to elevate the stature of the founding father, locally and globally, as a symbol of patriotism, along with immortalising his legacy through projects and initiatives that promote his vision and values,” he added.
Sheikh Mansour further stressed that the committee would pursue its efforts to make 2018 a year filled with programmes, projects and activities that promote the values and vision of Sheikh Zayed, so as to be a source of inspiration for generations.
The Year of Zayed centres on four main themes inspired by his legacy: wisdom, respect, sustainability, and the building of human capacity.
The initiative will throw light on his far-sighted vision that still guides the nation towards progress and prosperity.
The Founding Father’s Office was set up to oversee the official events and activities that promote him as one of the world’s unforgettable leaders.
The meeting was attended by Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future; Dr. Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development; Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, along with other members of the committee.
