Lebanon receives Interpol arrest warrant against central bank governor

Minister of Interior of the caretaking government Bassam Al-Mawlawi affirmed on Friday that the local authorities received an arrest warrant against Governor of the Central Bank Riad Salameh from the Interpol.

The minister in a statement said “we are seriously discussing Salameh’s destiny after receiving the Interpol notice,” indicating that the bank governor would be detained if the local judiciary takes a decision in this respect.

Public Prosecutor justice Ghassan Ouwaidat has already started examining the warrant and would set a date for taking Salameh’s testimony next week, the interior minister added.

A French judge tasked with investigating Salameh’s transactions issued an arrest warrant against him, a few days ago, after he failed to show up for interrogation in front of her in Paris.
