Jordanian Foreign Minister, UN officials discuss latest regional developments

RIYADH, Ayman Safadi, Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs of Jordan, met on Thursday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with Staffan de Mistura, United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, and Ghassan Salama, UN Envoy to Libya, to discuss the latest developments in the two war-torn countries.

According to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, during his meeting with de Mistura, Safadi stressed that the crisis in Syria cannot be resolved through military actions, and the only solution is through political and peaceful means, in line with the Geneva Process.

He also called for a thorough investigation into the recent chemical attack in the Douma region of Syria, while asking the international community to adopt a suitable response against the perpetrator.

Safadi also confirmed Jordan’s support for the efforts to unify Libya. Salama commended Jordan’s eagerness to establish security in Libya, as well as its efforts to ensure the stability of the North African nation.

Salama also noted the recent developments in Libya and the country’s plan to hold municipal elections by the end of April.
